Cathleen H. Summers

Cathleen H. Summers is a nurse attorney and co-founder of Generations Law Group in Acton, Massachusetts. Her practice concentrates on estate planning, Medicaid and long-term care planning, and guardianship. With more than thirty years of legal experience, she works at the intersection of legal planning and health care concerns. She has particular experience with crisis management for families dealing with care decisions and complex long-term planning needs.

Cathleen attended Boston College Law School and completed her legal education there in 1990. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Framingham State College and an associate degree in Nursing from Lasell College. Her combined legal and nursing background supports work involving health care decisions, long-term care, Medicaid planning, and estate matters where medical needs and family planning concerns can overlap.

Cathleen’s prior experience includes work as a Medicare Attorney with the Massachusetts Office of Attorney General and service as Chief Compliance Officer for Fallon Community Health Plan. She has provided general counsel and corporate compliance services to health care entities, handling litigation management, mergers and acquisitions, contracts, and compliance. She frequently presents seminars on health care business law, estate planning, and elder law and has served as an advisor to local hospitals.

Cathleen H. Summers is Immediate Past President of the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and has served on community boards. Boston Magazine named her among its Top Lawyers of 2024. Her memberships include the Massachusetts Bar Association, Health Care Compliance Association, and New England Chapter of The American Association of Nurse Attorneys. She brings nursing, health care, compliance, and estate-planning experience to families facing legal and care decisions.
