Carol L. Jones

Carol L. Jones is the managing partner of Metz + Jones LLC in Chicago, Illinois. Her practice focuses on family law and real estate, with particular experience representing LGBTQ+ individuals and families. She handles divorce, custody and visitation, prenuptial agreements, donor arrangements, gestational surrogacy matters, probate, and property transactions. She assists clients both when their families grow and when relationships change, addressing the legal consequences of parenting, marriage, and ownership.

Carol earned a B.A. in Communications and Religious Studies from Saint Mary’s College in 1997, followed by an M.A. in Bioethics from the Medical College of Wisconsin in 2000. She received her J.D. from Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 2003 and earned a certificate in Tax Law. During law school, she edited the Loyola Consumer Law Review and Annals of Health Law, developing research and writing skills relevant to complex family issues.

Carol joined Metz + Jones in 2009. Her matters include contested and uncontested divorce, parenting arrangements, family formation through donor agreements and surrogacy, real estate purchases and sales, and probate administration. She has also contributed legal articles on consumer and public policy issues. Her work combines negotiation with litigation when agreements cannot be reached, and she helps clients understand how family-related decisions may affect future parental rights and property interests.

Carol L. Jones has held leadership positions within the Illinois State Bar Association, including chairing its committee on sexual orientation and gender identity. She has participated in the association’s diversity and family law councils and in the Family Law Institute serving LGBTQ+ families. She also speaks on marriage, parentage, and family law issues. Her practice emphasizes careful factual review, negotiation, and advocacy for clients whose personal and family relationships require clear legal protections.
