Carman M. Garufi

Carman M. Garufi is the founding attorney of Garufi Law, established in 1991 with a commitment to delivering personal, conscientious legal services. He focuses on treating clients as individuals—not case numbers—offering honest guidance and fair billing. His practice centers on family law, civil litigation, traffic matters, and estate planning.

Carman earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Dayton in 1980 and his Juris Doctor from St. Mary’s University School of Law in 1983. He began his legal career in San Antonio, Texas, where he worked for Valero Energy Corporation and private law firms. After being admitted to the New York Bar in 1989, he relocated and began practicing in Syracuse before launching his own firm in Binghamton.

Widely recognized for his work in family law, Carman has handled cases involving divorce, child custody, child support, paternity, and adoption. His legal contributions have earned him repeated recognition by Best Lawyers in America and Super Lawyers for Family Law in Upstate New York. He also serves as an Attorney for Children, having held key advisory roles for the Appellate Division’s children’s program for over a decade.

Beyond his legal career, Carman has served as President and Director of the Broome County Bar Association. He remains actively involved in the community through various leadership roles, including board service, youth coaching, and Scouting, where he proudly holds the rank of Eagle Scout and continues to support youth development.

With over 40 years of legal experience and a reputation built on integrity and dedication, Carman M. Garufi continues to advocate for families and individuals throughout the Southern Tier. His legacy is one of service—to both his clients and the broader community.
