Candice C. Sirmon is an attorney at Stephenson, Chávarri & Dawson, LLC, where she represents clients in civil rights, employment, personal injury, and constitutional matters. With over two decades of experience, she has litigated cases involving excessive force, cruel and unusual punishment, discrimination, products liability, and First Amendment freedoms, consistently advocating for justice and accountability.

Candice earned her J.D. from Loyola University School of Law in 2002, graduating with a certificate in International Law from the University of Vienna School of Law. She also holds a Master of Science in Criminal Justice Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Troy University. In 2019, she furthered her leadership training as a graduate of the Loyola University Institute of Politics. Licensed in Louisiana, New York, and Alabama, she is admitted to all federal courts in those states as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

Candice’s diverse career includes serving as Director of Litigation for the ACLU of Louisiana, where she handled cases on police accountability, religious freedom, LGBTQ rights, and systemic violations of constitutional protections. She also worked with the Independent Police Monitor of New Orleans, monitoring investigations into use-of-force complaints. Earlier roles included litigation at BrowneLaw and Lambert & Nelson, work on the FEMA Trailer multidistrict litigation, and an Equal Justice Works fellowship addressing post-Katrina housing discrimination. She began her career clerking for Justice Lyn Stuart of the Alabama Supreme Court.

Beyond her litigation practice, Candice C. Sirmon has been recognized for her commitment to public service, including the 2016 Gillis Long Poverty Law Center Public Service Award and Emerge Louisiana’s Volunteer of the Year in 2018. She is a member of the Federal Bar Association and the National Lawyers Guild and has lectured on anti-human trafficking law, immigration protections, and comparative law in the United States and abroad.
