C. Dennis Hughes

C. Dennis Hughes is a Member focused on insurance defense, bad faith, fraud, punitive damage actions, class actions, and complex litigation. He works at trial and appellate levels. His practice includes coverage evaluations, coverage litigation, employment discrimination defense, preventive employment law advice, mediation, and dispute resolution services for clients alike.

Dennis earned his J.D. from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1992 and his B.A. from the University of Alabama in 1989. His legal training supports his work in insurance disputes, appellate matters, employment claims, coverage issues, and complex civil litigation in state and federal courts and agencies.

Dennis is admitted to the Alabama State Bar, U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Middle, and Southern Districts of Alabama, and the Eleventh U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. These admissions support his work in trial matters, appeals, insurance defense, employment litigation, and civil actions involving Alabama state agencies and insurers.

Dennis is registered as a Mediator (Civil) with the Alabama Center for Dispute Resolution. He was appointed to the Board of the Alabama Insurance Planning Commission in 2012 and was elected Chairman for 2021 through 2024. He also serves with insurance and arson investigation professional organizations and related coverage matters.

Dennis has presented on insurance fraud, ethics, and property insurance coverage. His work includes presentations for the University of Alabama Insurance Day, the Birmingham Bar Association, and other professional programs. He also coauthored an article on exclusions from coverage for wear and tear, deterioration, inherent vice, latent defect, and mechanical breakdown.
