About

Bryan J. Cannon is a principal at Fish & Richardson in Washington, D.C. who litigates patent disputes for technology clients. His work has particular depth in standard essential patents and wireless communications. Bryan handles patent litigation in federal district courts, the International Trade Commission, and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. He also advises on patent prosecution, counseling, and portfolio management, giving clients support across multiple stages of the patent lifecycle and related dispute planning.

Bryan earned a J.D. from George Mason University Antonin Scalia Law School and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, with a minor in Aerospace Engineering, from the University of Virginia. His technical training supports work involving complex inventions and engineering concepts. That background helps him analyze patents, understand accused technologies, communicate technical issues clearly, and draft or prosecute patent applications in areas such as medical devices, automobile components, printers, and other mechanical or electronic systems.

Bryan has litigated matters involving smart doorbells, wireless phone chargers, dental scanning devices, electric-vehicle battery components, LTE, 5G, Qi, and other wireless technologies. He has worked on more than a dozen inter partes reviews and prepares invalidity, non-infringement, and freedom-to-operate opinions. Before practicing law, he worked as a lead auxiliary engineer at NAVSEA, where he reviewed technical specifications, system descriptions, and diagrams for air and ventilation systems.

Bryan J. Cannon maintains an active pro bono practice and has been named to the Capital Pro Bono Honor Roll for providing at least 50 pro bono hours in multiple years. He has served in leadership with the International Trade Commission Trial Lawyers Association’s Young Lawyers’ Committee and Executive Committee. His combined engineering and legal background supports patent litigation and counseling that require close technical analysis, clear courtroom communication, and strategic planning across prosecution, review proceedings, and enforcement disputes.
