Bruce E. Matter

Bruce E. Matter, Esq., is the founder and sole attorney of Legalmatter, P.C., a firm focused on intellectual property law, trademark, copyright, and business law. Since 1982, he has represented companies of all sizes across many industries. His primary goal is to help businesses protect their brands by securing trademark registrations with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He advises clients on safeguarding their business identity, goodwill, and intellectual property rights.

Bruce earned his J.D. from George Mason University School of Law (now Antonin Scalia Law School) in 1982. During law school, he served as Managing Editor of the Law Review. His legal education provided a strong foundation in research, writing, and analysis, which continues to guide his practice in intellectual property and business law.

Bruce began his career at a small intellectual property firm in Virginia, assisting with patent litigation and trademark matters. He later worked in-house at Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, Inc., where he handled author contracts, licensing, copyright, trademark issues, and commercial lease negotiations. He then served as principal counsel for Sea World, Inc. in San Diego, managing legal matters related to employment, construction, marketing, entertainment contracts, and regulatory compliance.

Bruce E. Matter founded his own practice in Maryland in 1993, focusing on trademark and copyright law. He has represented publishers before the U.S. Copyright Office and advised clients on complex license agreements. Admitted to practice in Maryland, the District of Columbia, Virginia, Florida, and California, Bruce continues to serve as trusted counsel, helping businesses register and protect their trademarks while addressing broader transactional needs.
