About
Brian Beverly is a founding partner and registered patent attorney with more than 30 years of patent practice and more than 40 years of legal experience. Based in the Oakland area, he advises companies on patent procurement, intellectual property portfolios, trademarks, copyrights, licensing, and related commercial matters. His practice focuses on protecting technical innovation and aligning legal rights with business plans. He works with domestic businesses seeking overseas protection and foreign companies that want to protect inventions and brands in the United States.
Brian earned a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, and a J.D. from Golden Gate University School of Law. His engineering background provides technical grounding for evaluating inventions and preparing patent applications involving machines, mechanical systems, and electromechanical products. He is admitted to the California Bar and registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. His admissions also include federal district courts in Northern California and Western Pennsylvania.
Brian has secured more than 150 patents for innovations involving port cranes, construction equipment, consumer products, musical instruments, architecture, and environmentally sustainable technologies. His work includes patentability and freedom-to-operate reviews, infringement risk analysis, and the enforcement and defense of patent, trademark, and copyright rights. He advises on technology licensing and transactions and coordinates with foreign associates to obtain and maintain international protection. These matters connect technical development with the commercial use of intellectual property.
Brian Beverly participates in the International Trademark Association, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, and regional intellectual property groups. He has served on committees addressing trademark office practices, professional education, and international intellectual property issues. His portfolio management work considers both the scope of legal protection and the value of those rights to a business. He helps clients make informed decisions about filing, maintaining, licensing, and defending their intellectual property.
