Brett Weiss

Brett Weiss is Attorney of Counsel with Blue Bee Bankruptcy Law in Salt Lake City and focuses on complex bankruptcy matters. Brett represents individuals and businesses in Chapter 7 liquidations and Chapter 11 reorganizations, and he has nearly four decades of experience representing debtors and occasional creditors. His work includes difficult consumer and business bankruptcy issues, including cases involving questions of first impression and financially distressed businesses seeking practical restructuring options.

Brett earned a BA from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1980 and a JD with Honors from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1983. His legal education developed the analytical foundation he has used throughout a long bankruptcy practice. He is admitted in Maryland and the District of Columbia, along with multiple federal courts, the US Tax Court, and the US Supreme Court.

Brett co-authored Chapter 11 for Individual Debtors, published by LexisNexis, and has written many articles on complex bankruptcy topics. He has lectured thousands of lawyers on Chapter 11 reorganizations, Chapter 7 liquidations, and related issues. He has spoken before organizations including the American Bankruptcy Institute and the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges, and he has testified before Congress on bankruptcy and credit issues.

Brett Weiss has served on the American Bankruptcy Institute Individual Chapter 11 Task Force and participates in several bankruptcy organizations. Brett has received the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys Distinguished Service Award and other professional recognition. His combination of writing, teaching, courtroom experience, and debtor representation supports clients facing complicated bankruptcy decisions and gives businesses and individuals informed guidance through liquidation, reorganization, and related creditor issues.
