About

Michael J. Maloney is the managing partner of Watton Law Group and focuses his practice on bankruptcy law. He works with people facing significant debt and emphasizes client communication, education, honesty, and informed decision-making. He is admitted in Wisconsin, Missouri, and Utah as well as several federal courts. His current practice centers on helping clients understand bankruptcy law, available options, filing requirements, and the legal consequences of decisions affecting their financial futures.

Michael earned an undergraduate degree in history and political science from Marquette University in 2001 and a J.D. from Marquette University Law School in 2004. He entered practice shortly before Congress overhauled federal bankruptcy law in 2005. His education and early work during that period gave him direct experience interpreting new statutory requirements and developing an understanding of how the revised bankruptcy provisions operated in practice.

In his current practice, Michael focuses on educating clients about their rights and options and explaining complex legal terminology in understandable terms. That approach supports clients as they evaluate legal solutions and decide how to move forward through bankruptcy proceedings.

Michael J. Maloney has served on the Board of the Bankruptcy, Insolvency, and Creditors’ Rights Section of the State Bar of Wisconsin and as its liaison to bankruptcy judges in the Eastern District of Wisconsin. He was recognized by Rising Stars from 2011 through 2014 and again from 2017 through 2019, and by Best Lawyers in 2024 and 2025. He continues to focus on bankruptcy and debt-relief work.
