Brenda M. Ask

Brenda M. Ask is an attorney at Frieberg, Nelson & Ask, L.L.P., serving individuals, families, businesses, nonprofit organizations, and local governments in South Dakota. Her practice focuses on estate planning, probate and trust administration, real estate transactions, business matters, federal income tax, contracts, and municipal law. Ask earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of South Dakota in 1994 and received her Juris Doctor from the University of South Dakota School of Law in 1997. She completed her final semester of law school as a visiting student at the University of Montana. During law school, she participated in client counseling and negotiation activities and worked with legal aid offices at both universities, building practical skills in advocacy, communication, and problem solving.

Before joining the firm in 1999, Ask served for one year as a law clerk for South Dakota’s Fifth Judicial Circuit. Her experience includes preparing estate plans, guiding probate and trust administration, handling real estate and business transactions, advising on tax-related issues, and providing legal counsel to nonprofit organizations and municipalities. This broad background allows her to evaluate legal concerns from multiple perspectives and provide practical guidance tailored to each client’s circumstances and objectives.

Ask has contributed to the legal profession and her community through leadership and public service. She served as president of the Young Lawyers Association in 2002 and chaired the Lincoln County mental illness board from 2009 through 2019. She has also supported educational, civic, and nonprofit organizations, including serving as legal counsel to the Canton Economic Development Corporation and local municipalities. Brenda M.
