Bill Hulsey is a patent attorney and founder who advises inventors, entrepreneurs, startups, and businesses on intellectual property protection. His work focuses on patents, trademarks, licensing, invention valuation, technology development, and IP commercialization. He serves clients working in advanced technical fields, including energy, aerospace, e-commerce, artificial intelligence, computing, and nuclear technologies. He helps clients protect inventions and brands while supporting long-term business growth across industries in regional and national markets.
Hulsey earned a J.D. from Vanderbilt University, where he served as Senior Managing Editor of the Vanderbilt Law Review and was elected to the Order of the Coif. He received an M.A. in Economics from the University of Virginia and a B.S. with Distinction in Theoretical Mathematics and Computer Science from Rhodes College. His engineering, economics, and legal training support a technical IP practice for complex matters and business planning.
Hulsey began his career as a nuclear engineering-trained US Navy submarine officer and later worked on advanced surveillance, sensors, automation, data fusion, and artificial intelligence projects. He has prosecuted more than 2,500 US and foreign patents, especially in energy, aerospace, and e-commerce technologies. His work has also included more than 1,000 trademark filings and registrations for inventors, entrepreneurs, and growing companies seeking protection for valuable brands in commerce and markets.
Bill Hulsey is recognized for combining patent law, technology knowledge, and entrepreneurial development experience. He is a Fellow and Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation and has taught innovation, entrepreneurship, and intellectual property concepts through the University of Texas IC2 Institute. His presentations and client work reflect a practice centered on helping innovators protect ideas, manage IP rights, and turn technical assets into business value for clients across industries.
