Bernie McEvoy

Bernie McEvoy is a seasoned criminal defense lawyer who has devoted more than 25 years to criminal law, handling a wide range of cases from DUI to violent and sex crimes. He began his legal career as an assistant district attorney, where he developed deep knowledge in the prosecution of serious offenses before transitioning to defense work.

Bernie earned a B.A. in International Relations from Tufts University in 1990. He then pursued his legal education at Vanderbilt University Law School, earning his J.D. in 1990. His academic background laid a solid foundation for his analytical and litigation skills, which he has refined over decades in practice.

During his 15 years as a prosecutor, Bernie built a strong track record handling DUI and vehicular homicide cases. As the former leader of the DUI and vehicular homicide unit, he tried more than 100 DUI cases and 10 vehicular homicide jury trials. This extensive courtroom experience gives him deep insight into how police officers and prosecutors investigate, charge, and attempt to prove DUI and vehicular homicide offenses.

In addition to DUI matters, Bernie also led prosecutions in child abuse and child homicide cases. He handled complex investigations involving physical and sexual abuse, developing specialized insight into medical evidence and trial strategy in sensitive cases. These skills now support his clients facing serious allegations.

Since 2005, Bernie has defended individuals charged with a wide array of crimes, including drug offenses, violent crimes, domestic violence, and sex offenses. His work has helped many clients navigate the criminal justice system, from initial charges to trial. He is known for thorough case preparation and aggressive defense tactics.

Bernie McEvoy is admitted to practice in Tennessee and remains actively involved in educating others on legal procedures. He has lectured police recruits and legal professionals on courtroom testimony and defense strategies, particularly in DUI and abuse-related cases. Bernie continues to advocate strongly for the rights of the accused.
