Ben Allison focuses his practice on commercial and intellectual property litigation, with work involving copyright, trademark, licensing, media, motion picture, TV, and art law matters. He has been selected as a Benchmark Litigation star and a Southwest Super Lawyer, and is also ranked in Chambers USA and Best Lawyers for professional recognition.
Ben earned his BA summa cum laude from Hillsdale College in 1992, where he served as Editor in Chief of the Hillsdale Collegian. He later earned his JD magna cum laude from Notre Dame Law School in 1997, where he was Editor in Chief of the Notre Dame Law Review.
Ben is admitted in New Mexico and New York, and he has appeared before federal and appellate courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court. Earlier in his career, he worked as an associate at Dewey Ballantine LLP and served as a law clerk to the Honorable Paul J. Kelly, Jr.
Ben has led complex cases involving universities, creators, companies, estates, and licensing firms. He helped Harvard University obtain a preliminary injunction in a trademark and copyright matter, later securing judgment in its favor. He also helped a licensing firm win a multimillion-dollar jury verdict involving the ALEXANDER GIRARD® brand.
Ben also guides literary, media, licensing, motion picture, and TV transactions. His deal work has involved CBS Television, the BBC, Paramount Pictures, Sony/Columbia Pictures, Hulu Japan, Random House, and other parties. In art law, he consults on commissions, archive placement, authenticity disputes, title concerns, and infringement issues across high-value creative matters.
Ben serves as lead counsel for the Conan Doyle Estate Ltd and speaks nationwide on intellectual property and trial issues. His professional activities include membership in the Copyright Society of the USA, Fellowship in the Litigation Counsel of America, ABA intellectual property work, and leadership with the First Judicial District Bar Association.
