Barry S. Ranshi is a dedicated criminal defense attorney based in New Orleans, Louisiana. As Managing Partner of his firm, he focuses exclusively on felony and misdemeanor defense. Barry earned his B.A. from the University of New Orleans and his J.D. from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law. During law school, he served as a student practitioner, assisting indigent defendants in Orleans Parish and helping secure the release of a defendant wrongfully charged with first-degree murder.

Barry began his legal career as a staff attorney to Orleans Parish Criminal Court Judge Darryl A. Derbigny. He reviewed criminal pleadings, advised the Court on substantive criminal law, evidence, and procedure, and drafted jury instructions and rulings. He assisted in reversing a wrongful Second Degree Murder conviction later affirmed.

Barry later worked for the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office, where he investigated and tried cases. He served as first and second chair trial prosecutor in numerous felony matters in juvenile court. A major New Orleans defense firm recruited him as a trial and appeals attorney handling complex criminal litigation.

Barry has won several appeals in the appellate courts and the Louisiana Supreme Court. He has negotiated plea deals that spared clients lengthy prison sentences and successfully filed expungements. He handles cases in St. Tammany, Jefferson, Orleans, Lafourche, Terrebonne, Tangipahoa, St. Charles, and St. Bernard Parishes across southeast Louisiana.
