She received the Maternal and Child Health Scholarship Award before completing graduate study at Case Western Reserve University, where she earned an M.S.S.A. in Social Science Administration in 1977. She earned her J.D. from Lewis and Clark College Northwestern School of Law in Portland in 1993. This education supports her work with families facing legal, emotional, and planning issues during divorce and custody cases.
Barbara is admitted to the Oregon State Bar and has been active in several professional organizations, including the Multnomah Bar Association, Oregon Women Lawyers, Oregon Family Law Practitioners, and the American Bar Association. She has served as Chair of the American Bar Association Committee on Child Custody. She has also contributed to the Oregon State Bar Family Law Continuing Legal Education Book, writing on custody, visitation, temporary relief, final relief, jurisdiction, and parenting plans for family law practitioners across Oregon.
