Anita Laremont is a real estate attorney whose practice centers on land use, zoning, and development matters. She advises clients on projects that shape communities, helping navigate regulatory requirements, planning challenges, and development opportunities. Her experience spans a broad range of real estate initiatives, including residential developments, commercial projects, adaptive reuse efforts, and major civic undertakings. Through a practical and strategic approach, she helps clients address complex issues that arise during the planning and approval process.
Anita earned her BA from Mount Holyoke College, magna cum laude. She later received her JD from New York University School of Law, where she was a Root Tilden Scholar. She is admitted to practice in New York. Her professional accomplishments were recognized when she was named a 2026 Crain’s New York Business “Woman of Influence.” In addition to her legal practice, she remains active in civic and community organizations, including New York Public Radio, Downtown Alliance, and Lower Manhattan Cultural Council.
Anita has worked on significant development matters involving large-scale residential projects, office-to-residential conversions, commercial developments, and redevelopment initiatives. Her work also includes projects connected to civic improvements and major economic growth efforts. In addition to private-sector matters, she has contributed to public policy discussions that influence development throughout New York City. As a member of the 2025 New York City Charter Revision Commission, she participated in recommending changes designed to support housing development, with those revisions later approved by city voters.
Anita Laremont brings extensive public-sector experience to her legal practice. Before returning to private practice, she served as Chair of the New York City Planning Commission and Director of the Department of City Planning. During that time, she played an important role in shaping land use policy and guiding major planning initiatives. Her leadership contributed to New York City’s Mandatory Affordable Housing policy and several notable neighborhood rezonings, including East New York, Greater East Midtown, and Soho Noho. Earlier in her career, she also served as general counsel and executive director within City Planning and spent many years as general counsel of Empire State Development Corporation.
