She joined the firm in 2024, bringing over two decades of experience in energy law and corporate counsel leadership. Her practice includes advising clients on mineral ownership, asset acquisitions and divestitures, title examination, and contract negotiations, ensuring comprehensive support across all facets of the oil and gas industry.
Angela earned her J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law and her B.A. in Sociology with an emphasis in Deviant Behavior from San Diego State University. She is licensed to practice in both Texas and New Mexico and is Board Certified in Oil, Gas, and Mineral Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization—an achievement that reflects her mastery of complex energy law issues.
Before joining the firm, Angela served as Senior Vice President of Land and General Counsel at Tall City Exploration III LLC. In that role, she guided strategic business decisions, oversaw regulatory compliance, and handled high-level negotiations involving multi-state energy operations. Her background in corporate governance and mineral law provides clients with a unique advantage in both transactional and litigation settings.
In addition to her private practice, Angela Staples serves as General Counsel to the Permian Basin Petroleum Association, where she provides legal and legislative guidance to oil and gas operators in Texas and New Mexico. A respected thought leader in the industry, she also authors a monthly column for PB Oil & Gas magazine, where she analyzes recent case law developments and regulatory trends shaping the future of the energy sector.
