About
Angel Taveras is the attorney behind Taveras Law, P.C. in Providence, Rhode Island. He focuses on complex commercial and government litigation, elections and voting rights litigation, municipal restructuring, public finance, pensions, and public infrastructure. Over more than 25 years in practice, he has represented individuals, local businesses, political candidates, and national companies. He also serves as local counsel in matters involving law firms from around the country and handles legal needs extending beyond Rhode Island.
Angel earned a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and a B.A. cum laude from Harvard University. His academic background preceded a career combining private practice with public service and complex litigation. He is admitted in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and New York, as well as several federal courts of appeals and district courts. That multi-jurisdictional background supports work involving commercial disputes, government entities, election issues, public finance, and matters with significant institutional or public consequences.
Angel served as the 37th Mayor of Providence from 2011 to 2015, leading a municipal government with thousands of employees and a large public budget. His legal practice draws on that government experience in matters involving municipalities, public finance, pensions, infrastructure, and voting rights. He has also represented a broad range of private clients and national companies in litigation. His work combines courtroom advocacy with an understanding of governmental operations, public institutions, and complex commercial interests.
Angel Taveras serves on the boards of Washington Trust Bancorp and Brown University Health and is a member of the Latino Corporate Directors Association. His career includes private litigation, municipal leadership, public service, and board governance. He continues to represent clients in disputes and public-law matters where legal strategy may intersect with government operations, elections, finance, infrastructure, or institutional decision-making, bringing experience from both legal practice and executive public leadership.
