About
Andy Wilson serves as Ohio Attorney General after years in public service, prosecution, and state safety leadership. His legal career has centered on protecting communities, supporting victims, and guiding public agencies through demanding criminal justice matters. Before taking this office, he led the Ohio Department of Public Safety, managing major divisions, thousands of employees, and a large public budget. That role gave him broad experience with law enforcement, emergency response, licensing, and public safety systems.
Wilson earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Wright State University. He also earned a J.D. from the University of Dayton’s School of Law. His education gave him a strong base in government, public policy, legal writing, and courtroom practice. These degrees supported a career focused on criminal law, victim protection, and public service. They also helped prepare him for leadership roles that required legal judgment, policy knowledge, and clear decision-making under pressure.
Wilson began his legal career in 2002 as a trial prosecutor in Clark County. He handled serious cases involving sexual and physical violence against children, work that required preparation, care, and a strong commitment to justice. In 2011, he was appointed Clark County Prosecutor and later won election to that office. As prosecutor, he oversaw major criminal cases and helped develop programs aimed at improving local justice services.
Andy Wilson also served as a senior adviser for criminal justice policy to Governor Mike DeWine. He assisted the Pike County Prosecutor’s Office in a major murder case involving the Rhoden, Manley, and Gilley families. That work helped lead to the conviction of George Wagner IV, who received eight life sentences without parole. Through prosecution, policy work, and public safety leadership, he has worked to protect Ohio residents, strengthen legal systems, and support justice for affected families. His record shows steady service in roles that connect courtroom work, agency oversight, and practical action for people harmed by crime or served by the state government across Ohio.
