Andy Lorentz

Andy Lorentz is a partner at Davis Wright Tremaine and co-chair of its Financial Services Practice. Andy founded and co-chairs the firm’s fintech practice and advises businesses on financial regulation, transactions, disputes, and emerging technology. His clients include banks, nondepository institutions, global technology companies, startups, fintech companies, neobanks, e-commerce businesses, payment processors, and program managers operating in U.S. and cross-border markets.

Andy earned a J.D., cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center, an M.A. in International Relations from Boston University, and a B.A. in International Relations and German from the University of Pennsylvania. At Georgetown, he received an American Jurisprudence Award in Constitutional Law and worked on Law and Policy in International Business. His education supports a practice involving cross-border regulation, financial systems, technology, and complex commercial relationships.

Andy advises on payments, money transmission, consumer and commercial credit, ACH and real-time payment networks, card systems, and financial technology platforms. His work also covers blockchain, digital assets, smart contracts, software services, Bank Secrecy Act and anti-money laundering compliance, and Office of Foreign Assets Control sanctions. He helps established institutions and emerging companies evaluate licensing, product structures, market entry, partnerships, regulatory expectations, and disputes involving financial services products.

Andy Lorentz combines financial services regulation with technology and transactional experience. He works with companies launching and scaling products that operate within rapidly changing payment, credit, and digital-asset rules. His practice helps clients identify regulatory obligations, structure business relationships, address compliance concerns, and respond to disputes or agency questions. His cross-border experience is particularly useful for technology and financial services businesses entering the U.S. market or expanding regulated offerings.
