Andrew A. Lance is a leading partner at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP and head of the firm’s Hotel and Hospitality Practice within the Real Estate Practice Group. Based in New York, he serves on the firm’s Compensation Committee and previously co-led the New York office from 2017 to 2023. He represents a broad range of clients, including real estate funds, sovereign wealth funds, REITs, hedge funds, developers, lenders, and nonprofit institutions. His practice spans real estate acquisition, financing, leasing, joint ventures, construction loans, restructurings, and public-private development projects. Mr. Lance is widely recognized for handling some of the most complex and high-profile transactions in the industry.

Andrew Lance earned his J.D. from Yale Law School in 1983, where he was a member of the Yale Law Journal. He holds a B.A., cum laude, from Princeton University, earned in 1980, and also attended the University of Paris. He is admitted to practice in New York.

Mr. Lance’s legal career began at Sullivan & Cromwell, where he practiced from 1984 to 1993. He joined Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP in 1999 and has since led landmark transactions, including billion-dollar developments, hotel financings, and affordable housing initiatives. He also represents numerous cultural and educational organizations in their real estate efforts. A Fellow of both the American College of Real Estate Lawyers and the American College of Mortgage Attorneys, he is frequently recognized by Chambers USA, Legal 500, Lawdragon, and Who’s Who Legal for his work in real estate and hospitality law.

Andrew Lance also teaches real estate law as an adjunct professor and lectures at institutions like NYU, Yale, and the Practising Law Institute. Known for his deep knowledge, negotiation skills, and calm approach, he is a trusted advisor to major players in the U.S. and global real estate markets.
