Amer S. Ahmed is a partner in the New York office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP. He is an accomplished litigator with experience across trial, appellate, and investigatory matters. His practice spans commercial litigation, white-collar defense, ERISA, product liability, and media law, often involving high-stakes and high-profile disputes.
Amer earned his Juris Doctor from Columbia Law School in 2005, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar and served as an articles editor for the *Columbia Law Review*. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Human Biology, with distinction, from Stanford University. At Stanford, he was a President’s Scholar and elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Society.
Amer has represented institutional and individual clients in a wide range of litigation matters, including the dismissal of billion-dollar ERISA claims, the reversal of punitive damages verdicts, and defense against RICO and defamation claims. He also has significant appellate experience and regularly advises on constitutional and regulatory issues.
In addition to his litigation practice, Amer is a leader in pro bono work. He has secured asylum for a Syrian refugee and achieved favorable outcomes in copyright and defamation matters. He is co-chair of Gibson Dunn’s New York Diversity Committee and serves on the firm’s Global Diversity and Professional Development Committees.
Before joining Gibson Dunn in 2012, Amer S. Ahmed was an associate at Williams & Connolly LLP, where he defended clients in libel, pharmaceutical, and false advertising cases. His bar admissions include New York, D.C., and multiple federal district and appellate courts, as well as the U.S. Supreme Court. He continues to be a trusted advocate for clients navigating the most complex legal challenges.
