Ameena Syed

Ameena Syed is a partner at Arnoux Sharma Standeford, LLC in Chicago, where she represents clients in family law matters. Her work includes prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, divorce, allocation of parenting time and responsibilities, and parentage actions. She advises people navigating changes in family relationships and legal obligations, using a collaborative approach when appropriate while remaining prepared to advocate for clients in contested proceedings.

Ameena earned a B.A. in Political Science from Loyola University Chicago, with minors in Journalism, Urban Planning, and Arabic Language and Culture. She then received her J.D. from DePaul University College of Law. Her studies provided a foundation for legal research, writing, and communication, skills she applies to disputes involving parenting arrangements, marital agreements, and the legal and financial consequences of divorce.

Ameena began gaining family law experience as a judicial extern to Judge Mark J. Lopez in the Domestic Relations Division of the Circuit Court of Cook County. She subsequently worked at a prominent Chicago family law firm, first as a clerk and then as an associate, remaining there for eight years. She later joined Arnoux Sharma Standeford as a junior partner. Her practice combines experience with court procedure and attention to each client’s circumstances.

Ameena Syed serves on the advisory board of DePaul University College of Law’s Schiller DuCanto & Fleck Family Law Center. She co-authored a chapter on attorneys’ fees in the 2023 and 2026 editions of a family law practice publication and previously contributed to chapters on postnuptial agreements and employee benefits. She emphasizes practical guidance, frequent communication, and thoughtful representation as clients make important decisions about their families.
