About
Alison A. Cox is Special Counsel at Bowles Rice in Martinsburg, West Virginia, and a member of the firm’s Tax Team. Her practice focuses on estate planning and administration, wills, trusts, and elder law for individuals and business owners. She also works on estate and gift tax planning, asset protection, Medicaid planning, and related concerns that affect families and their long-term financial arrangements.
Cox earned a J.D. from West Virginia University College of Law in 1998 after completing a B.F.A. at Radford University in 1994. Her legal education supports her work on estate documents, fiduciary responsibilities, and the legal questions that arise when clients plan for aging or transfer property. She also holds West Virginia basic and advanced mediation certifications.
Before joining Bowles Rice, Cox served as a staff attorney with West Virginia Senior Legal Aid, Inc. There she advocated for older adults on Medicaid, wills, powers of attorney, guardianship, property rights, and consumer concerns. She also presented seminars addressing legal issues affecting seniors. This background informs her current work with families planning estates or addressing the legal needs of older relatives.
Alison A. Cox received a West Virginia State Bar More than a Lawyer recognition in 2020 and a Jefferson County Community Ministries Challenge Coin in 2023. She has served on the boards of the Martinsburg Berkeley County Chamber of Commerce and Hospice of the Panhandle. Her practice combines estate-related legal planning with experience serving older adults and community organizations.
