Alex West

Alex West is a partner at Fisher Phillips in Charlotte, North Carolina, advising employers on workplace safety and regulatory enforcement. His practice focuses on occupational safety and health matters, government investigations, whistleblower issues, and related litigation. He represents businesses in OSHA inspections and contested enforcement proceedings across numerous states. His prior government service gives him experience with the regulatory process from the agency perspective as well as the employer side.

Alex earned a B.A. from the University of Virginia in 2008 and a J.D. from William and Mary School of Law in 2012. His education supports his work interpreting administrative regulations, preparing evidence, and addressing disputes arising from government investigations. He is admitted to practice in North Carolina and Virginia, with additional admissions before federal courts and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

Alex formerly served as litigation manager for the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry, where he reviewed enforcement matters and handled contested cases. He later represented employers in civil litigation and workplace safety cases in private practice. His current work includes proceedings before the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission and investigations involving federal and state labor agencies, as well as administrative matters involving environmental and child labor issues.

Alex West previously served as president of the State OSHA Lawyers Organization. He also handles whistleblower investigations and proceedings before the U.S. Department of Labor’s administrative judges and review board. His regulatory experience helps employers respond to inspections, understand allegations, prepare legal defenses, and manage potential consequences of workplace safety enforcement, particularly in sectors such as construction and hospitality.
