Alex P. Herrington Jr.

Alex P. Herrington Jr. is an attorney with Stites & Harbison in Louisville, Kentucky, whose practice centers on securities, municipal bonds, and corporate activities. Mike advises clients on corporate finance and securities offerings, corporate governance and disclosure, tax-exempt debt financing, joint ventures, economic development, and other business matters. His clients have included insurance companies, public companies, governmental agencies, hedge funds, health care companies, foreign banks, REITs, underwriters, trustees, and brokerages.

Mike earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Kentucky College of Law in 1978, where he served on the Kentucky Law Journal. He received a B.S. in Foreign Service from Georgetown University in 1975 and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. His education provided a strong foundation for work involving finance, securities, public entities, cross-border interests, and complex transactions in which legal documentation and regulatory requirements must align with broader financial objectives.

His representative work includes advising an insurance holding company on private placement investments exceeding $300 million, participating in mergers and acquisitions across multiple jurisdictions, and handling large commercial lending transactions. Mike has also represented the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development in efforts to secure a major foreign automobile manufacturer, worked on equity registration statements for public clients, and served as underwriters’ counsel in multi-million-dollar transactions involving public and private financing.

Alex P. Herrington Jr. is admitted in Kentucky and Florida and to federal courts in both states. He is a member of the National Association of Bond Lawyers as well as state and local bar organizations. His practice combines public finance, securities, corporate, and lending experience, enabling him to work with issuers, investors, lenders, public agencies, and businesses on transactions that require careful coordination of legal, regulatory, and financial considerations from planning through closing.
