About
Alex Basilevsky is a partner in Obermayer’s Litigation Department in Philadelphia who concentrates on complex litigation and environmental law. He frequently handles disputes driven by technical or scientific expert testimony, including environmental and non-environmental matters. His environmental practice includes cases involving contamination and toxic torts, representing parties accused of contributing to contamination as well as parties claiming harm. He has also represented energy companies in litigation involving fuel spills, gas explosions, and trucking accidents.
Alex earned a J.D. from Tulane University School of Law and a B.A. from Cornell University. He is admitted in Louisiana, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, along with federal district courts in Louisiana and Pennsylvania and the US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. His legal education and multi-state admissions support a litigation practice involving complex scientific records, expert testimony, commercial disputes, and environmental claims across state and federal forums.
Alex has first-chair trial experience under state and federal law, including matters focused on soil and water contamination. His non-environmental litigation has included defending an information technology services company against a hedge fund claim seeking more than $20 million, resulting in a defense verdict after trial. He also represented a specialty chemical manufacturer in a corporate espionage dispute that ended in a substantial settlement for the client.
Alex Basilevsky has held leadership roles within the American Bar Association’s Toxic Tort and Environmental Litigation Committee and has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America for environmental litigation. Before joining Obermayer, he practiced in New Orleans on complex litigation, class actions, antitrust, mineral lease disputes, and product-liability defense. His background combines trial work, technical evidence, environmental law, and commercial litigation involving high-value and fact-intensive disputes.
