About

Adam P. Laxalt is a partner at Cooper & Kirk in Washington, DC who works within a litigation boutique handling significant federal and state disputes. Adam’s background includes constitutional, regulatory, commercial, appellate, and state-representation matters. Before joining the firm, he served as Nevada’s 33rd Attorney General from 2015 through 2019, where he was the state’s chief legal officer. In that role, he supervised criminal and civil matters, managed a large public law office, and provided legal counsel to state officials, agencies, boards, and commissions.

Adam earned a B.A. from Georgetown University, magna cum laude, and a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. His legal education preceded public service that included work as Nevada Attorney General and service as an Assistant Professor of Law at the U.S. Naval Academy. He is a Navy veteran who served in Iraq. His background combines legal training, military service, government leadership, and litigation experience, providing perspective on disputes involving constitutional authority, government action, public institutions, and high-stakes civil and appellate matters.

Adam’s work as Attorney General included U.S. Supreme Court and appellate matters involving state sovereign immunity, the Fourth Amendment, habeas procedure, religious liberty, property rights, federal preemption, taxation, and other constitutional issues. He led or participated in multistate efforts, supervised numerous trials, and managed significant potential civil liabilities for Nevada. His experience includes trial and appellate work involving constitutional questions, state authority, public-law disputes, and significant civil matters.

Adam P. Laxalt is admitted in Nevada and the District of Columbia, with additional federal court admissions. His experience as a state attorney general gives him direct knowledge of government decision-making, enforcement, and multistate litigation, while his private practice places that experience within a litigation-focused environment. He handles matters requiring strategic judgment across trial and appellate stages, particularly when constitutional principles, agency authority, regulatory obligations, or substantial commercial interests are at issue. His work is grounded in courtroom advocacy and public-law experience.
