Aaron M. Smith

Aaron M. Smith is an attorney at von Briesen & Roper, s.c. in Milwaukee and a member of the firm’s Health Law Section. He advises health care providers on legal and business issues involving regulatory compliance, accreditation, licensure, medical staff credentialing, physician contracting, privacy, patient care, transactions, and government enforcement. His practice also addresses health care fraud and abuse laws, including the False Claims Act, Stark Law, and Anti-Kickback Statute.

Smith earned his J.D. from Georgetown University in 2015, an M.S. in Health Law from Seton Hall University School of Law in 2013, and a B.S. in Nursing from the University of Wisconsin in 2001. Before practicing law, he spent about a decade working as a registered nurse and head nurse in Wisconsin and New York. That combined legal and clinical background supports his ability to understand operational concerns that arise in health care settings.

Smith works with health care organizations on regulatory compliance and fraud and abuse matters, internal investigations, long-term care and assisted living issues, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, health information privacy and security, and patient care risk management.
