About

A. Michael Pratt is a shareholder at Greenberg Traurig and Chair of the Philadelphia Litigation Practice. He represents corporations, financial institutions, manufacturers, pharmaceutical and medical device companies, and public entities in complex disputes and strategic matters. His work includes litigation in federal and state trial and appellate courts across the United States, along with counseling on government, legislative, and public policy issues that can materially affect business objectives and legal risk.

Michael earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1985 and a B.A. in Economics and English from Washington & Jefferson College in 1981. After law school, he served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Nathaniel R. Jones of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. His legal and economic education, combined with appellate clerkship experience, supports a practice involving sophisticated litigation, strategic counseling, and matters at the intersection of law and business.

Michael’s career includes private practice, government service, corporate leadership, and public-sector appointments. He has served as Chancellor of the Philadelphia Bar Association, Chief Deputy City Solicitor for the City of Philadelphia, chief litigation counsel for a Fortune 100 company, and a member and Vice Chairman of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission. He regularly leads multidisciplinary teams on disputes and public-affairs matters requiring coordinated legal, commercial, governmental, and policy strategies.

A. Michael Pratt has held numerous leadership positions in the legal profession and community, including service with Community Legal Services and the American Bar Association’s Standing Committee on Pro Bono and Public Service. He has written and spoken on litigation strategy, public policy, professional responsibility, leadership, and access to justice. His current practice draws on decades of courtroom, government, in-house, and civic experience to guide clients through sensitive disputes and strategic legal challenges.
