Zick Rubin

Zick Rubin is Of Counsel at Archstone Law Group and focuses on publishing and media law, copyright, trademark, and higher education matters. He advises publishers, authors, educational institutions, scientific organizations, and cultural organizations on intellectual property rights and contractual relationships. His work includes publishing agreements, collaboration agreements, literary agency agreements, licensing arrangements, and questions involving copyright protection and use. He also helps clients address developing intellectual property issues connected to artificial intelligence.

Zick earned a B.A. from Yale University, graduating magna cum laude, a Ph.D. in Social Psychology from the University of Michigan, and a J.D. from Harvard Law School, graduating magna cum laude. While at Harvard, he served as an editor of the Harvard Law Review. He later clerked for Judge Levin H. Campbell of the US Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, adding judicial experience to his academic and legal background.

Zick has practiced law for more than thirty-five years and has handled agreements and intellectual property questions affecting books, educational works, media, and institutional content. Before joining Archstone in 2019, he was a partner at Rubin & Ulrich and practiced at Palmer & Dodge and Hill & Barlow. He previously taught psychology at Harvard and Brandeis and has authored textbook and trade-book material, experience that gives him direct familiarity with the concerns of authors and publishers.

Zick Rubin combines intellectual property law with substantial experience in publishing, academic work, and authorship. His practice helps clients structure contracts, protect copyrighted and trademarked material, clarify ownership and licensing rights, and respond to new questions created by digital technologies and artificial intelligence.
