William T. Foley

William T. Foley is a shareholder at Erickson Sederstrom, and he advises businesses on business law, tax, financial, securities, real estate, and transactional matters. He serves as general counsel and business adviser to entrepreneurial startups, established companies, and multigenerational family-owned enterprises. He helps entrepreneurs, directors, managers, and investors evaluate legal and financial issues affecting operations, growth, ownership, and long-term planning. His prior experience as a CPA and tax consultant strengthens his ability to connect legal advice with practical business considerations.

William earned his B.A. from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. He received his J.D. cum laude from Creighton University School of Law. His education supports his work across corporate law, taxation, securities, mergers and acquisitions, and commercial real estate. He applies his legal, accounting, and financial background when he explains complex issues and develops concise solutions for business clients.

William began his legal career with the firm in 1991 after he worked for a national accounting firm as a CPA and tax consultant. He advises clients on mergers and acquisitions, securities matters, tax planning, real estate transactions, governance, and other significant business decisions. He is admitted in Nebraska, the US District Court for Nebraska, the Eighth Circuit, and the United States Tax Court. His multidisciplinary experience helps him assess how legal structures, tax consequences, and financial objectives interact within each engagement.

William T. Foley has served as firm president since 2021, and he remains a longtime member of its Board of Directors. He has earned recognition from Best Lawyers in America and an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell. He is a Nebraska State Bar Association Fellow, and he has supported numerous professional, charitable, civic, and educational organizations.
