William R. Fahey is a senior partner at Cooney & Conway, widely respected for his leadership in asbestos litigation and trial advocacy. Since joining the firm in 1985, he has played a pivotal role in securing justice for clients suffering from mesothelioma and other asbestos-related illnesses, with settlements totaling nearly $3 billion.
Mr. Fahey earned his Juris Doctor from John Marshall Law School in 1980. He began his legal career as a prosecutor in the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office, where he handled serious felony cases and was named Prosecutor of the Year in 1982. This early courtroom experience laid the foundation for his later success as a plaintiff’s trial lawyer.
Since becoming a partner in 1994, Mr. Fahey has been at the forefront of some of Illinois’ most consequential asbestos trials. His courtroom victories include a $35.1 million verdict and a $12.3 million verdict on behalf of individuals diagnosed with mesothelioma. He has personally settled over 800 cases exceeding $1 million each, securing life-changing results for his clients and their families.
Mr. Fahey is admitted to practice in the State of Illinois and federal courts, including the Northern and Central Districts of Illinois and the Northern District of Indiana. He has argued cases before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and the First and Second District Appellate Courts of Illinois. He is a long-standing member of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association and the American Association for Justice.
