William D. (Bill) Sims

William D. “Bill” Sims is a co-founder and attorney at Northern Plains Justice, LLP in Sioux Falls. Bill focuses on helping people injured in accidents recover losses and assisting small businesses with legal disputes. His work combines personal injury representation with broader civil experience, and he approaches cases with an emphasis on direct advocacy, problem solving, and helping clients understand the legal and practical issues affecting their claims.

Bill is an honors graduate of Evangel University and Drake University Law School. His academic training was followed by military legal service, where he developed courtroom experience in a disciplined and demanding environment. That background supports his current work in civil disputes and injury cases by reinforcing careful preparation, clear communication, and the ability to evaluate evidence, legal rights, and strategic options under pressure.

After law school, Sims was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force and served as a Judge Advocate, prosecuting and defending military crimes. He has continued to serve as an officer in the South Dakota Air National Guard and has served as an Adjunct Professor of Military Law at the University of South Dakota School of Law. He is licensed in South Dakota and Iowa.
