Van C. Durrer II is a Partner at Dentons and a member of the Restructuring, Insolvency & Bankruptcy practice. He advises clients on complex restructuring matters across the Pacific Rim and the United States. His work covers mergers, acquisitions, financings, and strategic transactions involving distressed companies.
Van earned his JD from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1993 and his BA from Johns Hopkins University in 1990. He is a Business Bankruptcy Specialist certified by the American Board of Certification and serves as a Mediator for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California.
Van represents public and private companies, secured creditors, and official and unofficial committees of unsecured creditors. He also advises investors and asset purchasers in troubled company transactions. His industry experience includes financial services, retail, hospitality, gaming, real estate, entertainment, energy, healthcare, manufacturing, logistics, telecommunications, technology, media, and life sciences.
Van has led matters recognized by the Financial Times’ U.S. Innovative Lawyers report and honored with deal-of-the-year awards by the M&A Advisor. The M&A Advisor presented him with its 2022 Leadership Award and inducted him into its Hall of Fame for his contribution to restructuring.
Van has represented major clients in significant restructurings and Chapter 11 proceedings. His experience includes advising the Special Liquidators of Irish Bank Resolution Corporation, McClatchy Company, Toshiba Corporation, Caesars Acquisition Corporation, Anchor BanCorp Wisconsin Inc., AmericanWest Bank, and Secure Home Holdings on complex transactions and reorganizations.
