Thomas J. Lane

Thomas J. Lane, Esq. is a seasoned criminal defense attorney based in San Antonio, Texas. Since 2015, he has focused exclusively on defending individuals in complex criminal trials, appeals, and post-conviction writs of habeas corpus. His practice is built on sharp trial advocacy and a commitment to protecting constitutional rights in and out of court.

Thomas earned his Juris Doctor from St. Mary’s School of Law in 2012. During law school, he interned with the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office, studied international law in Austria with Judge András Sajó of the European Court of Human Rights, and competed with St. Mary’s nationally recognized Mock Trial Team. He holds a B.A. in History from the University of Texas at Arlington.

Thomas’s legal career began in child protection and oil and gas law before turning fully to criminal defense. In 2017, Thomas Lane gained national attention for his role in defending Christopher “Jake” Carrizal, a key defendant in the Waco Twin Peaks shooting case. The trial revealed misconduct and inconsistencies that led to the dismissal of all related charges against over 150 individuals.

In 2019, Thomas co-founded the law firm Hunter, Lane & Jampala PLLC, where he continues to represent clients in trial and appellate courts across Texas. He is admitted to practice in all Texas federal district courts, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
