Terence J. Linn is a partner and intellectual property lawyer at Gardner, Linn, Burkhart & Ondersma LLP who helps clients obtain, protect, enforce, and commercialize valuable intellectual property rights. He is a registered patent attorney with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and has more than 30 years of experience in intellectual property law. Linn concentrates on intellectual property litigation, mediation, licensing, and related agreements, and he has represented clients in federal courts across the country.

Terence earned his J.D. from George Washington Univ. National Law Center and his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan State University. He was associated with the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society and the Pi Tau Sigma Mechanical Engineering Honor Society. His technical education supports his ability to understand inventions, engineering concepts, and other complex issues that may arise in patent matters.

Terence has handled appeals in patent litigation before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C. He has also appeared in other federal appellate courts and represented clients before the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences, the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, and the International Trade Commission. He serves as an approved mediator for the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan, allowing him to help parties address intellectual property disputes through structured negotiation.

Terence is admitted to the State Bar of Michigan, the U.S. Supreme Court, several federal appellate and district courts, the U.S. Claims Court, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He belongs to the American Bar Association, Federal Bar Association’s Grand Rapids Chapter, Grand Rapids Bar Association, Michigan Patent Law Association, and State Bar of Michigan.
