Taniesa Christina Vélez

Taniesa Christina Vélez is the founder and managing attorney of Velez Law, PLLC, based in Louisville, Kentucky. She represents clients in a wide range of family law matters, including divorce, custody, support, paternity, domestic violence, and abuse and neglect proceedings. With experience on all Jefferson Family Court dockets, Ms. Vélez has built a reputation for zealous, compassionate advocacy and effective courtroom representation.

Ms. Vélez earned her J.D. from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in 2018, completing the fast-track program in just two years. She holds a B.S. in Economics with a concentration in Finance from California State University, Bakersfield (2016) and an A.A. in Business Administration from Bakersfield College (2014).

Ms. Vélez began her legal career in San Diego, California, working at boutique law firms that specialized in personal injury, criminal defense, civil litigation, and family law. Her early career involved handling complex civil matters and advocating for severely injured clients in cases involving corporate and government negligence.

After relocating to Kentucky in 2018, Ms. Vélez quickly became a trusted figure in the Louisville legal community. She has served as both a Guardian ad Litem and a Parent’s Attorney in dependency, neglect, and abuse cases, always prioritizing the best interest of the child. Her courtroom skills and commitment to justice earned her recognition as one of the National Black Lawyers Top 40 Under 40 in Kentucky (2022). In 2023, she was nominated for the Best of the Best Top 10 Family Law Attorneys award.

Taniesa Christina Vélez is admitted to the Kentucky Supreme Court and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky. She is a member of the Kentucky Bar Association, Louisville Bar Association, Kentucky Justice Association, and American Bar Association.
