Syed M. Abedi is a skilled intellectual property attorney with extensive experience in patent and trademark prosecution, enforcement, licensing, and litigation. He provides strategic legal counsel to clients across various industries, including consumer products, medical devices, alternative energy, and industrial design.
With a strong background in engineering, Syed seamlessly communicates complex technical matters to clients, helping them protect and enforce their intellectual property rights. His business-focused approach ensures that legal strategies align with each client’s goals.
Syed earned his J.D. magna cum laude from Seattle University School of Law in 2012. During law school, he served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Thomas S. Zilly at the U.S. District Court, Western District of Washington. Before pursuing law, he earned an M.Eng. in Aerospace Engineering from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 2003, where he researched acoustic emissions monitoring of space shuttle external tanks. He also holds a B.Eng. in Aerospace Engineering from Ryerson University, which he completed in 2000.
Leveraging over a decade of aerospace industry experience, Syed applies his deep technical knowledge to intellectual property (IP) law, assisting clients with patent filings, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, and IP enforcement. His work includes guiding clients through trademark clearance, prosecution, licensing, and litigation while also addressing domain name disputes, unfair competition, and international IP strategies.
On the litigation front, Syed represents clients in federal courts, inter partes proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) and Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB), and domain name disputes before ICANN-accredited resolution providers. His ability to handle complex cases ensures that his clients’ IP assets remain protected.
Syed M. Abedi is admitted to the Washington State Bar and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington. He is actively involved in professional organizations, serving on the Non-Traditional Marks Committee of the International Trademark Association (INTA) and the Executive Committee of the Washington State Bar Association IP Section. Recognized for his legal excellence, he has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America® 2025 and named a Washington Rising Star® in 2023.
