Suzanne Wood Bruckner

Suzanne Wood Bruckner is a shareholder and tax lawyer at Sutin, Thayer & Browne, and a licensed New Mexico CPA who leads her firm’s tax law division. She advises businesses, government bodies, tribes, universities, and other organizations on state and federal tax concerns. She handles tax planning, audit defense, administrative protests, litigation, refunds, credits, incentives, employment law, and property tax matters. She also counsels public and private clients on taxable and tax-exempt financing, business formation, governance, and contract preparation.

Suzanne earned her B.S. cum laude from St. Lawrence University in 1986. She received her M.B.A. from the University of New Mexico in 1994. She earned her J.D. magna cum laude from the University of New Mexico Law School in 2005. She graduated as a member of the Order of the Coif. Before entering law, she spent ten years working as a certified public accountant with KPMG LLP.

Suzanne represents clients before New Mexico’s Independent Hearing Office in disputes involving state taxes. She advises healthcare providers, government contractors, oil and gas companies, manufacturers, and other businesses on tax planning and audits. She helps companies structure contracts and industrial revenue bond projects to reduce tax exposure and secure available incentives. She drafts proposed legislation, testifies before legislative committees, and supports policy changes affecting New Mexico taxpayers. She was admitted to practice in New Mexico in 2005.

Suzanne Wood Bruckner brings clients a combination of legal, accounting, public finance, and leadership experience. She served as a United States Army captain in Korea, Germany, and Desert Storm. She has received Best Lawyers recognition since 2021 and Chambers USA recognition since 2016. She received the 2018 Albuquerque Lawyer of the Year honor for Tax Law. She has held leadership roles with the New Mexico Public Accountancy Board and New Mexico Tax Research Institute.
