About

Susan Orlansky is of counsel at Reeves Amodio LLC in Anchorage and has a practice centered on appellate work and complex litigation. She previously spent eleven years with the Alaska Public Defender Agency concentrating on criminal appeals, then expanded her private practice to white-collar, environmental, and civil matters in state and federal courts. Susan has represented individuals, businesses, professionals, and institutional clients in appeals, administrative proceedings, arbitrations, and negotiated resolutions.

Susan earned a J.D. from Harvard University in 1979, magna cum laude, and a B.A. from Reed College in 1975. Her legal education was followed by court and public-defense work that strengthened her focus on appellate analysis and written advocacy. That background supports a practice involving close review of trial records, constitutional and procedural issues, statutory interpretation, evidentiary questions, and the development of appellate arguments in cases where the legal issues can be as important as the underlying facts.

Susan has handled civil and criminal appeals involving environmental permits, insurance disputes, professional discipline, antitrust claims, property disputes, due process issues, and criminal procedure. Her work has included representing oil companies, individuals challenging insurers, licensed professionals, fishing businesses, and parties seeking review of lower-court decisions. She has also used negotiated settlements and arbitration when those approaches better served clients than extended litigation, reflecting a practice that considers both appellate strategy and practical resolution.

Susan Orlansky volunteers as a staff attorney for the ACLU of Alaska and frequently presents continuing legal education programs on appellate practice. She has received recognition for pro bono service and is ranked by Chambers USA for litigation. Susan brings decades of Alaska appellate and litigation experience to matters that require careful record analysis, persuasive writing, and a clear understanding of how trial-court rulings and agency decisions are reviewed on appeal.
