Summer Allchin

Summer Allchin is an immigration attorney in Muscatine, Iowa, where she practices exclusively in federal immigration law. She assists clients across Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, and other locations. Her work includes family petitions, asylum, removal defense, humanitarian relief, consular processing, waivers, permanent residence, citizenship, and naturalization. Summer earned a B.A. in Nordic Area Studies and International Relations from Augsburg College in 2002. During her undergraduate education, she spent one year studying at the University of Oslo in Norway. She received her J.D. from the University of Iowa College of Law in 2007. During nearly three years in its legal clinic, she concentrated primarily on immigration matters. Her work earned the 2007 Michelle R. Bennet Award for Outstanding Client Service.

Summer developed her commitment to immigrant advocacy through Human Rights First and the Capital Area Immigrant Rights Coalition. During law school, she assisted immigrant domestic abuse survivors through the Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Violence. Additional training came through an internship with The Advocates for Human Rights. After law school, she practiced immigration and family law with St. Cloud Area Legal Services. She then spent four years at a small immigration firm before focusing exclusively on federal immigration matters.

Summer Allchin has been licensed in Minnesota since 2007 and in Iowa since 2015. Her American Immigration Lawyers Association leadership included chairing its Iowa-Nebraska Chapter and helping organize professional education programs. Through volunteer clinics, she has assisted immigrant detainees, low-income residents, and migrant communities. She also served the Diversity Service Center of Iowa and supports the Iowa Migrant Movement for Justice. Spanish and Norwegian language skills help her communicate with clients across cultures.
