Steve Ruby

Steve Ruby is a skilled attorney with a focus on business law, brewing and alcohol law, and real estate. With a solid foundation in both legal knowledge and practical operations, he provides clients with reliable legal advice that meets real-world needs. His experience spans regulatory compliance, contract matters, and licensing.

Steve began his academic journey at Butler University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in political science and history in 2008. He then pursued his Juris Doctor at Indiana University School of Law—Indianapolis, graduating in 2011. That same year, he was admitted to the Indiana State Bar, setting the stage for a career that bridges legal counsel and hands-on business operations.

Before practicing law full time, Steve played a key role as an owner and operator of Black Acre Brewing Company. There, he oversaw brewing operations, quality control, and all levels of regulatory compliance—handling permits, labeling requirements, and disclosures. His leadership helped shape a fully compliant and operational brewery from the ground up.

Earlier in his career, Steve built a strong foundation in law and public service through hands-on roles, including Mayoral Intern at the Mayor’s Action Center, legal intern with the ACLU of Indiana, and staff on a congressional reelection campaign. These experiences sharpened his understanding of legal frameworks, civic engagement, and effective public policymaking.

After Black Acre Brewing Company closed in 2023, Steve brought his knowledge to consulting. He supported the development and operations of two brewing facilities, guiding them through complex legal and compliance steps. Today, he continues to help clients with permit transfers, corporate formation, lease agreements, and alcohol law compliance.
