About
Sheryl Herndon is a Virginia elder law attorney and founder of Herndon Law, P.C., a client-centered practice serving families in estate planning law, elder law, long-term care, Medicaid planning, guardianships, conservatorships, estate and trust administration, and fiduciary services. She also represents veterans in appeals of compensation benefit claims before the Department of Veterans Affairs, helping clients protect loved ones, assets, and future care decisions with confidence and practical legal guidance statewide.
Sheryl received her undergraduate degree from Virginia Tech and earned her J.D., cum laude, from the University of Richmond’s T.C. Williams School of Law. During law school, she was a founding member of The Richmond Journal of Law and Technology, described by her profile as the first law review published exclusively online. This education supports her clear writing, planning advice, and careful client counseling in complex matters for Virginia families.
Sheryl began her legal career as an Assistant Commonwealth Attorney in Henrico County, prosecuting misdemeanor and felony cases. After eight years in public service, she entered private practice and focused on helping clients plan for incapacity, care needs, and estate transitions. In 2017, she opened Herndon Law, P.C., building a practice aligned with her dedication to estate planning, long-term care guidance, and personal client service across Virginia communities with care.
Sheryl Herndon is active in professional and community organizations, including the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, Virginia Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, Virginia State Bar Trusts and Estates Section, and GrowthRVA. She has also volunteered with SPAN, taught in the University of Richmond Paralegal Studies Program, and instructed through OSHER Lifelong Learning Institute.
