About
Sherrilyn Farkas VanTassel is a partner at Toriseva Law in Wheeling and heads the firm’s domestic law section. Her practice focuses on family and domestic matters, including Divorce, Custody and Adoption. She works with clients facing legal issues that can affect children, finances, household arrangements, and long-term family relationships. Her broader professional background also includes substantial in-house legal experience for large companies and institutions, giving her additional perspective on negotiation and practical problem solving.
VanTassel graduated from Jefferson Technical College in 1985, Wheeling Jesuit University in 1990, and Duquesne University School of Law in 1994. Her education was followed by a legal career that included corporate and institutional work before she concentrated more heavily on domestic relations. That combination supports an approach to family-law matters that considers legal requirements, documentation, negotiation, and the practical consequences that court orders and agreements can have for clients and their families.
Much of her earlier legal career was spent serving as in-house counsel for large companies and institutions. That experience provided a strong business and corporate background and required work with organizational decision-making, legal risk, and contractual issues. In her domestic practice, VanTassel applies those skills to cases involving family transitions and disputes, helping clients organize facts, understand options, prepare agreements, and address contested issues involving custody, divorce, adoption, and related concerns.
Sherrilyn Farkas VanTassel is admitted to practice in West Virginia state and federal courts and before the U.S. Supreme Court. Her current role combines years of broad legal experience with a focused commitment to domestic law. She helps clients work through family matters with attention to both legal procedure and the practical effects of a resolution, drawing on experience in negotiation, institutional counseling, and client-focused representation to address sensitive and often complex family disputes.
