About

Sam Kramer is a lawyer with MacDonald Hoague & Bayless in Minneapolis who represents people in employment and civil rights matters. His practice focuses on workplace discrimination and harassment, retaliation, wage and hour violations, pregnancy discrimination, disability rights, sex and race harassment, police misconduct, jail and prison misconduct, wrongful imprisonment, First Amendment issues, and Family and Medical Leave matters. He approaches litigation with close client communication, detailed investigation, discovery, and preparation for trial when a case cannot be resolved earlier.

Sam earned his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, cum laude, in 2015. He also received an LL.M. from the University of Liverpool in 2010 and a B.A. in Political Science and Journalism from the University of Minnesota, summa cum laude, in 2007. His education in law, policy, and communication supports work involving complex factual records and civil rights claims. He has practiced civil rights law since graduation and works primarily in Minnesota while also handling matters in Washington.

Sam began his legal career with a fellowship at an employment law firm in Washington, D.C., then moved to Seattle to join MacDonald Hoague & Bayless. He returned to Minnesota in 2019, practiced with a boutique trial firm, and later returned to MHB to open its Minneapolis office in 2022. His cases have been resolved through trial, settlement, and court orders. His work has included employment discrimination, institutional misconduct, school discrimination, racial harassment, excessive force, and retaliation matters involving significant individual rights.

Sam Kramer also serves the legal community through leadership and volunteer work. He is President of the Minnesota Chapter of the National Employment Lawyers’ Association, a member of the Minnesota Association for Justice, and a volunteer with the Minnesota State Law Library’s Unemployment Appeals Legal Advice Clinic. His practice combines trial preparation with attention to each client’s circumstances, helping individuals understand the process, develop strong factual records, and pursue remedies when employers or institutions are accused of violating protected rights.
