Salim Khayoumi

Salim Khayoumi is a partner at Buchanan Law Firm, LLC in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he represents people injured or killed because of negligence and medical malpractice. His practice focuses on plaintiff-side civil litigation involving serious injuries and wrongful death. With more than 15 years of legal experience, he represents clients in New Mexico state and federal courts and brings experience from both prosecution and civil defense to complex injury matters.

Khayoumi earned his J.D. from Washburn University School of Law in 2008 after graduating magna cum laude from the University of New Mexico in 2005 with an honors B.A. in Sociology and minors in Political Science and Pre-Medicine. His academic background, particularly his pre-medical studies, complements a practice involving medical malpractice and injury claims that often require close review of medical evidence, causation, and damages.

Khayoumi began his legal career as a prosecutor with New Mexico’s Fifth and Second Judicial District Attorney’s Offices, prosecuting hundreds of cases ranging from DWI matters to complex felonies. He later entered civil practice, representing corporations and insured parties in medical malpractice defense, insurance defense, oil field injury litigation, premises liability, bad faith, employment law, and construction litigation. He has tried numerous bench and jury cases and participated in a plaintiff trial team that secured a verdict exceeding $24 million in 2023.
