Russell “Rusty” L. O’Brien

Russell “Rusty” L. O’Brien is the founding partner of O’Brien Law Group in Louisville, Kentucky, where he has dedicated his career to helping individuals and families navigate the complexities of U.S. immigration law. With decades of experience, Rusty represents clients before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Immigration Courts (EOIR), the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA), and U.S. consulates and embassies worldwide.

Rusty earned his B.A. in International Relations from Brigham Young University in 1994 and his J.D. from Brandeis School of Law at the University of Louisville in 1998. While in law school, he served as President of the International Law Society and was a member of the Moot Court Team. His early commitment to international law shaped his lifelong focus on immigration matters.

As a fluent Spanish speaker who lived in Venezuela for two years and has traveled across four continents, Rusty brings a unique global perspective to his practice. He understands the challenges clients face and is committed to providing compassionate and practical solutions for people from all walks of life.

Rusty is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), having served two terms as the Mid-South Chapter Chair and as a national liaison. He regularly chairs and speaks at immigration seminars and conferences, staying up to date on evolving immigration laws and policies to better serve his clients.
