Russell “Rusty” L. O’Brien

Russell “Rusty” L. O’Brien is the founding partner of O’Brien Law Group in Louisville, Kentucky, where he has dedicated his career to helping individuals and families navigate the complexities of U.S. immigration law. With decades of experience, Rusty represents clients before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Immigration Courts (EOIR), the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA), and U.S. consulates and embassies worldwide.

Rusty earned his B.A. in International Relations from Brigham Young University in 1994 and his J.D. from Brandeis School of Law at the University of Louisville in 1998. While in law school, he served as President of the International Law Society and was a member of the Moot Court Team. His early commitment to international law shaped his lifelong focus on immigration matters.

Fluent in Spanish and shaped by two years of living in Venezuela plus travel across four continents, Rusty offers a truly global perspective in his practice. He understands the real-world challenges clients face and is dedicated to delivering compassionate, practical solutions for individuals and families from diverse backgrounds.

Rusty is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), having served two terms as the Mid-South Chapter Chair and as a national liaison. He regularly chairs and speaks at immigration seminars and conferences, staying up to date on evolving immigration laws and policies to better serve his clients.
