Russell DeMott is the founder of a Charleston-based law practice focused on bankruptcy and estate planning. He has practiced law since 1995, helping individuals protect assets, manage debt, and plan for the future. Russell earned his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1993, where he served on the South Carolina Law Review. Following law school, he clerked for the Honorable Harry A. Beach in the Allegan County Circuit Court in Michigan from 1993 through 1995.
Russell’s practice concentrates on bankruptcy and estate planning matters. He assists clients with resolving debt through bankruptcy laws and creating thoughtful estate plans that protect loved ones. He finds fulfillment in providing constructive legal solutions that address immediate challenges while building long-term financial stability and peace of mind.
Russell has extensive judicial and mediation experience. He served as Associate Probate Judge for the Dorchester County Probate Court from 2011 to 2017 and currently serves as a part-time Magistrate Judge and Drug Court Judge for Dorchester County. He is a certified Circuit and Probate Court mediator in South Carolina.
Russell’s professional recognitions include an AV Preeminent Peer Review Rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the AVVO Client’s Choice Award, and the Martindale-Hubbell Client Champion Award for Estate Planning in 2025.
